ADMIRAL Bundesliga Matchday 4 Review

16. August 2022 in ADMIRAL Bundesliga

FK Austria Vienna 2-1 WSG Tirol

FK Austria Vienna recorded their first victory of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga season with a hard-fought 10-man performance against WSG Tirol. Haris Tabakovic had opened the scoring with his second goal for the club, before Lucas Galvao’s elbow on Nik Prelec was adjudged to have been a red card offence after a lengthy VAR check. However, the Violets didn’t fold and added their second via Dominik Fitz whose deflected effort looped over Ferdinand Oswald and into the back of the net. Tim Prica’s fifth goal of the season brought the Tyroleans back into the contest, with the Swedish striker becoming the first WSG Tirol player to score in the opening four games of the season, but stupendous goalkeeping from Christian Früchtl kept them at bay. The much-awaited win for Austria Wien finally brought them back into positive points for the season, and a much-need tonic as the club head into a huge UEFA Europa League Play-Off against Turkish giants Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

SK Austria Klagenfurt 1-0 SV Guntamatic Ried

Jonas Arweiler’s 73rd minute goal sealed SK Austria Klagenfurt a maiden victory of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga season as they battled SV Guntamatic Ried at the 28 Black Arena. Nicholas Wimmer’s missed penalty had been the best chance for either side up until that point, until a quick-passing move in the final third finally unlocked the stern Ried defence and saw Rico Benatelli play a speculative ball across the penalty area to find Arweiler who rifled into the far corner of the net. Arweiler has now scored in two consecutive Bundesliga appearances - only Markus Pink and Turgay Gemicibasi had previously achieved this at Austria Klagenfurt. The victory puts Klagenfurt and Ried level on four points in the packed midfield of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga table after Match Day 4.

SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz 4-0 CASHPOINT SCR Altach

Saturday’s late game saw the future of SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz come to the forefront with all four of their goals scored by teenagers. 19-year-old Rasmus Holjund kept up his excellent record so far this season and opened the scoring after only 15 minutes with a close range finish, his ninth goal in 2022 with only Giacomo Vrioni only scoring more in the calendar year. However, the hosts had to bide their time with SCR Altach also enjoying opportunities, including Atdhe Nuhui’s headed goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up. Their defensive barrier fell in the 72nd minute with Dutch substitute Emanuel Emegha, also 19, adding a second after an excellent solo run before 17-year-old Moritz Wels contributed Sturm’s third at the back post - the second youngest ADMIRAL Bundesliga scorer in Sturm’s history. Emegha’s poacher’s finish at the back post added Sturm’s fourth for a comprehensive victory - their biggest home win in the league since September 2021.

SC Austria Lustenau 4-1 TSV Egger Glas Hartberg

Austria Lustenau continued their 100% home winning record with an emphatic victory against TSV Egger Glas Hartberg on Sunday afternoon. However, it didn’t start according to plan with Dario Tadic putting the visitors ahead from the penalty spot for his ADMIRAL Bundesliga record 43rd goal for the Styrians. The game was flipped on its head before the break via Bryan Teixeira’s first Bundesliga goal from the angle followed by Teixeira’s assist to Anderson for a thumping header to put the Vorarlbergers into a first-half lead. A third goal came in the 67th minute after Anderson’s quick breakaway opened space behind the Hartberg defence and he delivered a quality ball into the path of Lukas Fridikas to convert. The cherry on top came in added time as Michael Cheukoua couldn’t miss from in front of goal after another Teixeira assist for this first goal in Austria’s top flight since May 2018, meaning it was a statement victory for Lustenau who are now lofted to the heady position of fourth in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga table.

FC Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 RZ Pellets WAC

Red Bull Salzburg’s young guns combined once again as goals from Serbian youngster Strahinja Pavlovic and Slovenian star Benjamin Sesko secured all three points, despite a late scare from their Carinthian visitors. The champions had the perfect start with Luka Sucic’s corner finding Pavlovic in the bevy of players for the 21-year-old’s first ADMIRAL Bundesliga goal in only his second game; a fifth Bundesliga assist for Sucic too, all of which have come against WAC. It was two before the break after Fernando’s tricky work down the left saw a rifled assist into the path of RB Leipzig bound Sesko for his second goal of the season. Despite Salzburg’s two-goal advantage, it was actually Wolfsberg who had the stronger end to the game and were rewarded in the third minute of injury time as Dario Vizinger headed in at the back post - but it was too little too late for Robin Dutt’s side - whose focus switches to Molde FK on Thursday night in the Europa Conference League - as Red Bull Salzburg elevated into second position in the table.

LASK 2-1 SK Rapid Vienna

LASK continued their dream start to the season and remained top of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga table after Thomas Goiginger and Keito Nakamura’s goals sealed victory in the 160th meeting between LASK and Rapid Vienna. Goiginger’s opener after 10 minutes was the LASK stalwart’s first ever headed goal for the club after Rene Renner’s cross was deflected into the path of the 29-year-old. It was two before half-time with Marin Ljubicic’s perfectly weighted ball playing the 22-year-old Japanese forward into the perfect position to round Niklas Hedl and double LASK’s lead - Nakamura’s eighth Bundesliga goal, of which all eight have come at the Raiffeisen Arena. The visitors could only conjure a goal with one of the last kicks of the game as Marco Grüll’s shot from the left just squeezed past Alexander Schlager and a metre over the line but it was merely a consolation for Ferdinand Feldhofer’s side, who now focus on playing Liechtenstein Cup winners Vaduz in the Europa Conference League Play-Offs on Thursday.
