ADMIRAL Bundesliga Matchday 14 Reviews

TSV Egger Glas Hartberg 0-2 SK Austria Klagenfurt

Austria Klagenfurt came out on top in Styria as Markus Pink did the damage for the guests. Pink headed in the first from a Turgay Gemicibasi corner inside five minutes, before controlling a cross and firing low into the far corner of the net for 2-0 just after the half-hour mark. His third brace of the season takes him to eight goals, his joint highest ever tally in a Bundesliga campaign. Hartberg enjoyed 67% of the possession, and Dario Tadic’s five shots meant he had more attempts than anyone else in the game, but the ball simply wouldn’t go in for the home team. Both sides remain in the top six, with Austria Klagenfurt edging up to fourth, one point ahead of Hartberg. Austria Klagenfurt have now scored in 12 successive Bundesliga games, which can only be bettered by champions Red Bull Salzburg (36).

FC Flyeralarm Admira 1-2 SV Guntamatic Ried

SV Ried produced a stirring late comeback on Saturday to beat Admira and go fifth in the table. Marlon Mustapha had already dribbled through the defence and tested Ried keeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger once, before he beat him with the help of a deflection to notch goal number three of the season and put Admira in front after 18 minutes. The hosts continued to dominate for the first hour of the game, but Luca Kronberger narrowly missed two chances to extend the lead, and the visitors made Admira pay. Stefan Nutz showed some fleet footwork to level with a quarter of an hour to go, and with that he’s already matched last season’s tally of two goals and seven assists. It was to get even better for SV Ried as Leo Mikic came on and immediately grabbed the winner, converting from a low cross with less than five minutes left to play.

FK Austria Wien 0-1 FC Red Bull Salzburg

Bundesliga top scorer Karim Adeyemi made the difference on Saturday, coming from the bench to score the game’s only goal and extend Salzburg’s lead at the top of the table to 14 points. Austria started the game well at the Generali Arena and threatened with half-chances from Marco Djuricin and Eric Martel, but Rasmus Kristensen’s figure of six challenges (winning five) helped prevent the hosts from taking the lead. Salzburg’s first major chance came on the hour, after Georg Teigl’s misplaced back-pass sent Junior Adamu through on goal. Patrick Pentz denied Salzburg on that occasion, but five minutes later Andreas Ulmer’s square ball got past him, and it served as his first assist of the campaign when substitute Adeyemi arrived at the far post to tap it in for his eleventh goal of the season. Salzburg held onto the slender lead for a 12th win in 14 games, and in that time they have conceded just nine goals, their best figure since 2006/7 when they had conceded seven goals at the same point.

LASK 3-0 WSG Tirol

LASK claimed a much needed win in Pasching as they comfortably defeated WSG to move off the bottom of the table. Both sides traded shots in a keenly contested opening half hour, but the Upper Austrians hit the front when some neat passing on the edge of the box saw the ball played out to Marvin Potzmann, who fired in from the right of the penalty area. That was Potzmann’s third league goal for LASK, and in the second half Keito Nakamura would get his first, as he slid in an angled finish at the near post to double the lead. Hong Hyun-Seok delivered the assists for both goals, taking the South Korean’s figure to four in the eleven games that he has played this season. The industrious Thomas Sabitzer won a penalty for WSG against his former employers, but he stepped up and missed the spot kick after 77 minutes. LASK would then get one of their own in stoppage time as Andreas Gruber’s heel was clipped, and Peter Michorl duly put it away to seal the result with his second goal of the season. The home team move up to tenth place, level on 13 points with WSG Tirol who now prop up the table.

RZ Pellets Wolfsberger AC 4-1 SK Rapid Wien

Wolfsberg continued their excellent run of form to record a fifth straight league win and see off an out of sorts Rapid on Sunday evening. Cheikhou Dieng’s low cross allowed Adis Jasic to side-foot the ball in for the opener after 22 minutes, scoring his first goal in his 12th Bundesliga appearance. When Michael Liendl’s cross was nodded back across the area by Mario Leitgeb, David Gugganig was well-placed to head in his first goal in WAC colours and double the lead. Rapid threatened a quick comeback when Emanuel Aiwu fired in his first goal for the team less than two minutes later, but Dieng’s lightning pace put him through on goal from a Matthäus Taferner pass, where he restored Wolfsberg’s two-goal cushion on the stroke of halftime. Of Dieng’s 12 Bundesliga goals, three have now come against Rapid, making them his joint favourite opponent (alongside Admira). WAC remained in charge for the second half, and Eliel Peretz finished well for 4-1 just after the hour-mark; his team are unbeaten whenever he has been on the scoresheet, with five wins and one draw. Rapid drop to seventh, Wolfsberg are up to second, albeit having played one more game than their nearest challengers SK Sturm.
