ADMIRAL Bundesliga Matchday 21 Review ASK-RBS
LASK 0-0 FC Red Bull Salzburg
LASK needed a home win against the defending champions Salzburg to keep their dreams of the Championship Group alive for another week, and despite a battling performance in the Wednesday’s postponed fixture, a point wasn’t enough for the Linzers. Florian Flecker and Thomas Goiginger both went close for the hosts, but Salzburg could have snatched the win only for Maurits Kjaergaard to put a late chance wide.
As a sign of how well LASK played, Salzburg keeper Philipp Köhn was forced into six saves, the most he’s made in an ADMIRAL Bundesliga match, as LASK’s total shots outnumbered the guests by twelve to five. At the other end, Alexander Schlager was unbeaten, making LASK the first home team to keep a clean sheet against the Red Bulls since December 2020.
Salzburg had to settle for a draw despite having an extra man for 40 minutes once Rene Renner had received a second yellow soon after the restart, but that was enough for manager Matthias Jaissle to scoop a points record with 52 from his first 21 games, beating the previous best of 51 from 21 games set by former LASK boss Valérien Ismaël.
Salzburg remain the form team at the top of the table, they’ve now won four and drawn one of their last five league games. LASK are eighth, but second in the form table themselves though, with eleven points from their last five games, a run which so nearly got them back into contention for the top six.
