ADMIRAL Bundesliga Matchday 5 Reviews

RZ Pellets WAC 3-0 FC Flyeralarm Admira

Wolfsberg gave new boss Robin Dutt his first win in the dugout with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Admira. The Wolves, who had previously drawn two and lost two of their opening four games, took the lead through Amar Dedic’s first-ever Bundesliga goal in the 20th minute. Admira then became the first club in the division aside from Austria Klagenfurt (four red cards) to have a man sent off this season when Sebastian Bauer was shown a second yellow card for a foul in the box on the stroke of half-time. Michael Liendl slotted home the resultant penalty to take his Bundesliga tally for WAC to 49 goals - the most of any individual player for a Carinthian club. Substitute Cheikhou Dieng then rounded off the scoring with his first goal of the campaign right at the death.

FC Red Bull Salzburg 3-1 SK Austria Klagenfurt

Salzburg became the first club to win their first five games in four consecutive Bundesliga seasons with a 3-1 victory over newcomers Austria Klagenfurt. Karim Adeyemi scored the fastest goal of the season to date in the third minute to open the scoring and, although the Carinthians hit back through Alex Timossi Andersson in the first half, there was no stopping the Red Bulls in the second. Mergim Berisha curled home a free-kick 23 seconds after coming off the bench - the fastest Bundesliga goal scored by a substitute since Salzburg’s title-winning streak started in 2013/14 - before Rasmus Kristensen hammered home his third goal of the season to wrap up the points with six minutes to go. The Red Bulls are already five points clear at the summit with only five rounds of matches played.

WSG Tirol 0-0 CASHPOINT SCR Altach

Despite dominating almost every statistical category, WSG Tirol were held to a fifth consecutive draw of the season by Altach in the ‘Westderby’. The men from Tyrol had more shots (16-5) and possession (64%-36%), completed more passes (84%-61%) and won more corners (8-2) - but could not break down the Vorarlbergers’ resolute defence. Fabian Koch impressed in defence for the home side and registered 114 ball possessions - the most of any player on the pitch and the most of any WSG Tirol player in a Bundesliga match - but it was Tino Casali who stole the headlines: Altach’s shot-stopper pulled off a string of excellent saves to keep the men from Vorarlberg on level terms.

SK Rapid Vienna 3-0 SV Guntamatic Ried

Rapid Vienna paid tribute to their late honorary president Rudi Edlinger - whose death on Saturday was marked by a minute of passionate applause before kick-off - with an important 3-0 win at home to Ried. Marco Grüll broke the deadlock with a goal against his former club four minutes before the interval, before Ercan Kara doubled the advantage with his first goal of the season in the 71st minute. Robert Ljubicic, who had already assisted Grüll’s opener, then completed the scoring with a goal on his Bundesliga debut for the Green & Whites on the 81-minute mark. The three points saw the men from Hütteldorf climb from 11th place in the table before kick-off to third by the end of the day.

SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz 2-2 FK Austria Vienna

Sturm Graz fell five points behind league leaders Salzburg after being held to a draw at home by winless Austria Vienna. The Violets took the lead through Marco Djuricin’s first-half penalty kick, but the home side turned the game on its head after the break: Manprit Sarkaria scored a screamer against his former side in the 47th minute, before Kelvin Yeboah added a second three minutes later to draw level with Charles Amoah as the highest-scoring Ghanaian in Bundesliga history (18 goals apiece). It was the visitors who had the last laugh though, with Djuricin curling home a stunning effort from range. The striker now has five braces in the Bundesliga - two for Austria Vienna and three for ex-club Sturm Graz.

LASK 1-1 TSV Egger Glas Hartberg

Injury-hit LASK’s poor run of form continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hartberg. With home goalkeeper Alexander Schlager down injured following a collision with a team-mate, Matija Horvat volleyed home from distance to notch his first Bundesliga goal in the 69th minute. But LASK, who were the dominant side on the day, deservedly restored parity through Florian Flecker’s first league goal for the club since his transfer from Hartberg in the summer. With no league wins since the opening round of the season on 24 July, sixth-placed LASK are already nine points behind leaders Salzburg with only five matches played. Perennial overachievers Hartberg are down in 10th place but only trail the Linzers by a point.
