Bundesliga Match Day 27 Reviews

FC Flyeralarm Admira 0-2 FK Austria Vienna

Austria returned to the top of the group thanks to their routine win over Admira. The guests dominated with 21 shots compared to just five for the hosts. Sarkaria was involved in nine of his team’s efforts on goal, and although he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, he did register assist number seven for the season as he unselfishly set up Demaku for a first Bundesliga goal on his 44th appearance. Wimmer had opened the scoring with an overhead kick in first half stoppage-time to set the Violets on the way to the victory at the BSFZ Arena.

CASHPOINT SCR Altach 2-2 TSV Prolactal Hartberg

A dramatic game in Vorarlberg ended with the points shared. Rep notched his 15th Bundesliga assist - his eleventh away from home - as he crossed for Chabbi to open the scoring for Hartberg, but before long Maderner had taken advantage of a poor pass to level at 1-1. Oum Gouet then fired in a remarkable long-range strike to give Altach the lead before half an hour had been played. It was his fifth Bundesliga goal, and a fourth from outside the box. By the end though, Hartberg had made their 62% possession pay off, as Flecker grabbed the equaliser mid-way through the second half to leave it at 2-2.

SV Guntamatic Ried 2-1 spusu SKN St. Pölten

Ried claimed another impressive win this weekend to leave St. Pölten in trouble at the foot of the table. Bajic put the home side ahead with a crisp strike early in the second half; it was his third Bundesliga goal, and his second from outside the area. Luan levelled up for St. Pölten just after the hour mark as he headed home from a corner, meaning all of his five Bundesliga goals have come from set-pieces. Ried were not to be denied however, as Ziegl’s powerful free kick secured the win, and gave him a 200th Bundesliga appearance to remember. Heraf becomes the first Ried coach to go unbeaten through his first five matches, and the Upper Austrians also remain the only undefeated side in the group since the league split.

RZ Pellets WAC 1-2 FC Red Bull Salzburg

Salzburg bounced back from their mid-week defeat by winning an entertaining encounter with WAC. Daka headed his side into an early lead after Berisha’s flick-on, and that was goal number 24 of the season for the Zambian, matching his best ever Bundesliga tally. Joveljic pounced on a poor back pass to equalise with his 14th strike of the season, making him the second-highest WAC goalscorer in a single Bundesliga season, behind only Weissman (30 goals, 2019/2020). Soon after the break Salzburg were back in front, as Mwepu delivered his sixth assist of the campaign to a sixth different teammate; Berisha was the scorer this time, and the guests held onto their advantage to edge closer to the title, despite a red card for Bernede later in the game.

SK Rapid Wien 4-0 WSG Swarovski Tirol

A late flurry of goals saw Rapid run out comfortable winners in the end against WSG Tirol. Behounek poked a Kara cross into his own net after 21 minutes to set the hosts on their way, but it wasn’t until much later that they sealed the deal. Demir came on for his 27th Bundesliga appearance, and he got his first brace, both goals coming with less than ten minutes left on the clock. They were goals number five and six in the Bundesliga for the talented youngster; all of which have come from the bench. There was still time for Schick to square to Kara, who flicked the ball in neatly for 4-0, continuing Rapid’s record of winning every game in which Schick has provided an assist this season (7 assists, 6 wins).

SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz 3-1 LASK

Two penalties helped Sturm on their way to a vital win, as they took over third place in the Bundesliga table. Nemeth knocked a set-piece delivery over the line to give the hosts the lead just before the half-hour, and then Sturm’s first penalty of the season came in the final seconds of the first half. Jantscher has been involved in 145 shots this season, the most of any Bundesliga player, so it’s perhaps no surprise that he was the one to convert the spot-kick and make it 2-0 with his ninth goal of the campaign. The impressive Yeboah won another penalty after the break, and he stepped up to bury it for 3-0. Potzmann pulled one back for LASK but it wasn’t enough to stop them being leap-frogged in the standings.
